Tip of the week: Rapidly save sets of simulation data

Sometimes it's desirable to save the results of the present sim (for comparison) before running another one, but this can take quite some time if you use the Results-->Save... option in ADE, especially if the sim database is large.

A much quicker option is to use the Unix "mv" (move) command to rename the present database to another name. Then you can run the new sim without overwriting the old. Unlike "cp" (copy), the "mv" command does not actually recreate any data, it just changes the directory name, so it is instantaneous.

To use it, in a Unix shell, simply find your database on disk within your "spectre" directory, and use mv to rename it. (The database will have the same name as your simulation schematic or config view.) Example database location (yours will be different): /scratch/hught/simulation/adc12_sim/spectre/config, where "config" is the directory you would be renaming with mv, for example to "config_save" or to something more descriptive of the results you are saving.  Your actual path can be found by looking in the Select Results menu of ADE.
