a few AHDL and Tool questions

Since SpectreRF is a license option to spectre (the simulator is the same), you choose the analyses specific to SpectreRF from the Choose Analysis form in ADE with "spectre" selected as the simulator (e.g. pss, pac, pxf, pnoise, psp, pstb, qpss, qpac, qpxf, qpnoise qpsp, envlp).

SpectreRF is covered in cdsdoc, as is VerilogA. (SpectreHDL is obsolete). If you can't run cdsdoc for some reason, try to get that sorted out, but otherwise look in /doc, in particular at spectreRF/spectreRF.pdf , spectreRFTheory/spectreRFTheory.pdf and veriaref/veriaref.pdf .

I'd also recommend the book http://www.designers-guide.org/Books/#Kundert-2004 as a good place to learn Verilog-A.

Diva and Assura are different, but do have some similarities in the rule decks, and have some common implementation. But they are different tools.

Thanks lot for the help:

I tried pss, pnoise, as well as s-parameter analyses in ADE. The Spectre.out told me that all analyses were completed without error. (really good!). HOwever, when using Results->Direct Plot->PSS, etc. for those results, the Direct Plot submenu does not have PSS available, and neither for phase noise, or S-parameter, etc. So analyses were completed but results not available. Like a puzzle now.

All the rest are very helpful.

What subversion (type "icfb -W") are you using? This sounds very odd...

Following your suggestion, I got: " sub-version 5.0.0_MSR.500.24.5 " This is also the cadence 2004 version, and it is almost free for the education institutes on Unix platform supported by cadence. To better show what I got, I attached a screen shot for the analysis I just performed sucessfully, and the "direct plot" sub-menu after the simulation. Maybe some installation or path information were not there, I guess. Good weekend, Sean

Ah, you need to do Results->Direct Plot->Main Form. On the resulting form, you get a list of the analyses you've run, and you can then select the appropriate analysis and corresponding measurement.

A while back, the PSS results were consolidated onto the "Main Form" and no longer exist as a separate entry on the Results->Direct Plot form.

In fact you can plot ac, tran, noise etc from the main form these days (since IC50 or IC446).

The version you have is quite old now, but it still should work OK.
