Dear sir,

when i calculate the delay of level shifter circuit it will show the following error

expression evaluation failed : val is not legal

I am using IC615 and MMSIM 111  and here i am now add my error screen shots, so please give me any ideas to solve the error.

Without seeing your results database, it's very hard to know what is wrong. Can you uploading a simulation result database containing just the a and z signals used in the expression to the forum (use the Options tab)? You could use the results browser in ViVA to select the two signals, and then export to a PSF database.

If you can't do that, contact customer support.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.

    dear andrew,

sorry for this delay, here i am now attach the PSF database of the above error.please give any other idea tocalculate the propogation delay.

    kindly regards,

    M.Muthukumar.

The above expression is finding the delay between where signal a crosses 0.9 and signal z crosses 0.9 . Looking at your waveforms - I just plotted a and z, I get plots as shown in the attachment. Note that a never exceeds 0.375V, and so it's not surprising that the delay() fails.

If I change the expression from:

    delay(?wf1 v("a" ?result "tran"), ?value1 0.9, ?edge1 "either", ?nth1 1, ?td1 0.0, ?wf2 v("z" ?result "tran"), ?value2 0.9, ?edge2 "either", ?nth2 1,  ?td2 nil , ?stop nil, ?multiple nil)

    to:

    delay(?wf1 v("a" ?result "tran"), ?value1 0.2, ?edge1 "either", ?nth1 1, ?td1 0.0, ?wf2 v("z" ?result "tran"), ?value2 0.9, ?edge2 "either", ?nth2 1,  ?td2 nil , ?stop nil, ?multiple nil)

i.e. I changed the threshold of a to 0.2, then the expression succeeds (because it does cross 0.2).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Dear andrew,

thanks for your reply, i check the above settings but it shows the same error, i am now attach the psf file of the above modified expression value.

     with regards,

    M.Muthukumar.

The waveforms look the same in the psf you uploaded. What would have been more useful is if you showed the actual expression you used - the psf doesn't (and wouldn't) contain the expression.

I took your new data and used:

    delay(?wf1 v("a" ?result "tran"), ?value1 0.2, ?edge1 "either", ?nth1 1, ?td1 0.0, ?wf2 v("z" ?result "tran"), ?value2 0.9, ?edge2 "either", ?nth2 1,  ?td2 nil , ?stop nil, ?multiple nil)

in the calculator, and it worked fine. Please paste your expression rather than showing a screenshot - that way I can paste it into the calculator and check.

Which subversion of IC615 are you using? Help->About in the CIW will tell you, or type getVersion(t) in the CIW.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

I tried the expression I gave in my last post, with the last psf directory you uploaded, using 6.1.5.500.11 and got the answer in the calculator of 87.97E-9

    So it works for me...

    Andrew.

    hi andrew,

the same expression was not working for me so, please give any idea to solve this problem.

which version of MMSIM(spectre) you are using. i am used MMSIM 11.1.

The MMSIM version is not relevant here, because I was using the data you produced - the MMSIM version might affect how the psf directory is generated, but not how it is read.

I've never seen a case where the same data, the same version and the same expression behaves differently. My guess is that something has changed so I'm not doing precisely what you're doing.

For example, I ran viva from the command line, used the results browser to open the psf downloaded from your last attachment, and then pasted the expression from my post into the calculator. Then hit the eval button and it worked fine.

If that doesn't work for you then I can only suggest that you contact http://support.cadence.com as I have no idea what it could be - we'd probably need to do a web screen sharing session to see what you are seeing.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew

    Dear andrew,

the above problem is solved. i just press the defaults tab and again apply the input wave form and threshold values and now evaluate the delay its now working fine. but i dont know what is the problem.

     kind regards,

    M.Muthukumar.
