BSIM3 vs BSIM4

Hi All,

I have I think  trivial question I just want to confirm.

I am using virtuoso 5.1 with spectre sub-version 11.1 for an old 180nm PDK having an old spice model (header as below) :

MODEL: BSIM3 (V2.24)

DATE: Sep 12, 2004

SPECTRE VERSION: V5.0.32.500.2

As I get some strange simulation result in a particular case, I wanted to try BSIM4 spice model for more accurate result (header as below):

 MODEL: BSIM4 (V4.5)

DATE: Apr 18, 2008

HSPICE VERSION: H2006.03

I Just replace the BSIM3 model file by the BSIM4 one and don't get anymore the strange result. But, before taking this good result for granded I just want te be sure that there is no other config to do for using BSIM4 model  with my configuration mentioned above, even if the verison info in BSIM4 header is given for HSPICE! (I suppose the version info version=4.5 in the model description impose Spectre to used BSIM4.5 model for simulation ?)

Thank you.

 Best Regards,

K.C.

The comment probably just reflects the initial characterization that was done. There should be no special setup you need to do, but the key is that the foundry that is supplying these models should tell you if they have any special requirements when changing models. So you should ask them.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.
