Unable to get license feature

I downloaded Xwin and setup Cadence using these instructions from my university:

www-scf.usc.edu/.../tools_setup.htm

When I attempt to open Virtuoso from Xwin, I get the error:

cdsGetFastTime:shmget failure: No such file or directory.

*ERROR* (DB-320001): Unable to get Cadence(R) Design Framework II license feature of "111".

What does this error mean and how do I fix it?

    Hi,

Which version of Virtuoso are you trying to use, and on which platform? I don't know what Xwin is but it sounds like an X window emulation package - if so, it is not supported by Cadence for running Virtuoso.  You might try different packages such as NoMachine, VNC and Exceed (these are not officially supported either, but are much more commonly used, so most 'kinks' have been ironed out).

    regards,

    Lawrence.
