cdb2oa migration (pcellEvalFailed)

Hi Andrew,

While converting main tech lib(cdb format) to oa format using command, I am getting the following errors and warnings for almost all the pcells. The error is as follows:

 ERROR   (CDBOA-612): Cell
                     ../../../../../../bicmos5hpe/V2.1.0.5/bicmos5h
has an illegal CDBA name. Its contents will be copied to
the OpenAccess version of the library but will not be
                     translated.

WARNING (CDBOA-406): Directory
                     ../../../../../../bicmos5hpe/V2.1.0.5/bicmos5h
is in a cellview. The directory and its contents will be
copied to the destination database but will not be
                     translated.

So in any layout, which contains pcells from techlib, "pcellEvailFailed" message is coming. Please help me how to overcome this error.

Thanks in Advance

Lakshmi Prasanna

 Re: cdb2oa (pcellEvailFailed)

Instead of tagging on to this very old topic, please start a new topic.

What is the name of the llibrary you are converting? It looks like there is additional directories in the structure which would cause it to ignore the contents.

cdb2oa expects: libDirectory/cellDirectory/viewDirectory/dataFile

Hi Ted,

As you said I've checked the sequence of directories  "libDirectory/cellDirectory/viewDirectory/dataFile". There's been a problem. Few of the views has view name as symbollic instead of layout but contains layout related files - layout.cd%, layout.cdb, master.tag, pc.db. Is this the reason why it is giving illegal CDBA name? Please correct me if I am wrong. If it is correct how to correct the error.

Symbolic is the view name of the symbolic contacts (syContacts) from your techfile which are translated into stdViaDefs in OA. The old masters are not translated automatically.

If your pcell is instantiating them as syContacts, you have to use the -keepdevicemasters argument to cdb2oa to retain the cellViews as stdViaDefs do not have cellViews.

For your other errors, look at the cdboa documentation in cdnshelp. The section is Name Spaces under Getting Started => Using CDB to OpenAccess Translator

The errors you pointed out previously should not affect your pcells, the file name should have been mapped and you may have some extra directory levels in one of your cells which was copied over to the OA database without conversion.
