Hello guys,

As mentioned in the title, I want to ask you if you know how to define a new layer in the Cadence Layout, thank you very much for any answer.

Best regards,

UU

    Hi,

new layers are defined in the technology library, not the design.

So, assuming you have an existing technology library, you can  dump an ascii version, make your edits, and re-compile the technology library from the ascii file.

    1. Dump the ascii with  Tools->technology file manager->dump.

Select the technology library to dump and the ascii file name.

    2. Recompile with Tools->technology file manager->Load.

If you look at the dumped ascii file you may be able to find out yourself  which lines to edit.

    But, a quick summary:

You will need to define a layer name under "techLayers"

You will need to define a layer purpose under "techLayersPurposePriorities"

You will need to associate your layer with a color/stipple pattern with "techDisplays"

There are other sections as well. It all depends on what other Cadence tools you want to use (routing, DRD,etc).

But the above should get you started.

Look under " Technology Data ASCII Files Reference" (under "DFII") for more information.

Thank you, I've tried and it works well. Would you answer me other three questions?

    1. For the Pcell, we can define the variable parameters by Stretch, but this will change the size of all the layers acrossed by the control line. If we want to change just the size of one layer of them, how should we do?

    2. Where can we define the rules of the new layer, like the space, extension and minimum size...... or can't touch another layer?

    3.  How to associate a new created layout of device with the symbol or schematic of the device? That's saying, if we modify the parameters of the device in schematic, the device in layout will change correspondingly.

    Thanks.

    Best regarde,

    UU
