I am very new to PCB layout ... I currently have the Orcad PCB Editor 16.0 and am having the simplest problems ... I am spinning my wheels and just need to move on.

First problem: I created a pad for a smd and I am not creating a device using that pad.  I accidently placed extra pads and want to remove them but when I select them and try to delete them I keep getting "Selected item not valid for current operation, ignored: Connect Pin "Smd16_90,**"" ... where "**" is the number of the pin.  This is got to be one of the easiest things in the world to do ... and I don't know how.

Second easy problem: isn't there an easy way to place pads when creating a device?  I have a connector I am creating and all it's surface mount pads are detailed in a mechanical drawing from the centerline.  Say I want to put a row of 11 pads in where the 6th pin is on the center line ... do I really have to calculate where the first pin is going to go and put my mouse exactly on that location before creating them ... or can it be told where the centerline is and it automatically places it in the center?  The reason I ask is because I went to place my row of pads and accidently placed it in the wrong spot ... when I wanted to move it ... I selected them all and right clicked and selected "move" ... problem is that the location is the mouse location ... which is completely independant from any location on the pads so I don't know where to drop the row of pads.  (which is why I created extra pads because it is easier to locate the pads during the create process than after already created ... leaving me pads I can't seem to delete!)

Anyway, please understand I am new to the world of PCB layout and I can't seem to locate any real good beginners tutorials for the Orcad PCB Editor.

Thank you for your help,
Noob
