Hello experts, If I have a schematic and have pcells for all the devices used in the schematic, what's the easiest way to get an area estimate ? Thanks! nnxx

I think you can invoke VXL from the schematic and then call Design->Gen From Source. This form has option for Area Calculation based on "PrBoundary" or "bBox" of the layout cell. You can select one of them. Explore it.

Thanks rairaj. Actually, I was relying on this method so far but was hoping to find a solution that can be scripted for several blocks so I don't have to open VXL for every block that I want to get an estimate for.

/tools/dfII/samples/VPR has got area estimation function file areaScr.il . You can use that but you will need to modify it. Because, it simply does l*w on the mos device. It does not consider m , finger etc.. It considers contactArea(including active region to be 1.0, you need to comeup with a figure.) Also, if your devices have a deep nwell then it needs to be considered too.
