design variables in outputs, parameter tuning

Hello,

I have some smaller questions:

1. In ADE L, if I use the name of a design variable (which is assigned a value) in the calculation of an output, it is not found

at the moment the output is calculated. For the moment, I just define an output which is identical to the design variable

and assign the same value to it manually. Surely there has to be a better way to make the value of a design variable available to the formulas in the output section?

2. Does Cadence have a convenient parameter "tuning' - feature similar as in ADS (the tuning fork)?

Kind Regards,

Joris

    Hi Joris,

    1. To my knowledge there's no way in ADE-L to let your outputs (measurements) access your design variables. I use the same workaround that you described. If you can work in OCEAN, you can avoid maintaining two copies of the variables because you can set your design variables (using desVar() ) to the same variable used in your measurements.

    2. I'm not an ADS user, but you have you tried ADE-L -> Tools -> Parametric Analysis?

    Best,

    Stephen

    Hello Stephen,

I have Parametric Analysis, but there you just give a sweep range for a parameter.

The tuning function in ADS allows you define circuit elements as tunable, then sliders appear

which allow you to tune the variables and quickly see the impact on the waveforms. I was hoping something similar exists in Cadence.

    Kind Regards,

    Joris

    Hi Joris,

I've never seen such a feature in the Virtuoso environment. When you say "tune the variables" and "quickly see the impact on the waveforms", the simulator needs to run iteratively for each tuned value, which is just what happens when you set a circuit parameter with a design variable and sweep it with Parametric Analysis.

You can use VAR("varName") in your expressions to access the value of a design variable.

As for a fast tuning mode, this is not available in current releases.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the pointer about VAR(). Good to know!

    Best,

    Stephen
