VirtuosoXL Auto placer's Rules

hi ,all

i want to place the std_cell with virtuosoXL Auto Placer,after i fill the option in(Place->Placement Planing),i open the Auto Placer(Place-->Placer),

but I don't konw how to make the Rules.

Can anyone give a Rules example??

I use IC5.1 ,working on virtuosoXL.

    Hi,

    this is a very old version of the tools. I recommend to update to the latest version as soon as you can.

    Anyway, you can create the rules file with the GUI:

    Click Routing->rules->new rules

    You need to fill out the "layers" and "vias" section as a minimum.

    If you start with the "vias" section first, the layers section will automatically get populated with the necessary layers.

    The vias section defines which vias the router can use. The layers defines which layers the router  should use.

    It may seem strange that you need to define these rules for a placer.

    The placer was originally part of the router software in 5.1. It needs this rules file as well as the router

    After you save the file, you should be able to use the placer.
