How to use version control in IC615?

For using IC615, I found the design manager menu from the library manager cannot be used for checkin/checkout.

How to activate them? Thank you.

Design Management requires third party software. Currently there are five connection partners who provide this - in no particular order:

ClioSoft SOS

Dassault Systemes - DesignSync

IBM - ClearCase

IC Manage

MethodICs EDA - VersIC

It seems that VersionSync is not a default support in IC610.

We announced in 2005 that VersionSync would no longer be supported by Cadence. This letter (on the support.cadence.com site) explains this - note that MatrixOne is now part of Dassault Systemes. It continued to be shipped throughout the life of IC5141, but as indicated in that letter, it was not in any subsequent releases, so was not in IC5251 or IC61X.

Fine. Since it is not supported yet. We have to do the version control by svn ourselves. Thanks for your answering!

I would be very wary if you are trying to do the management of the files using a direct revision control system. You will be missing the important information about co-managed data - there are various files (e.g. within cellViews) that need to track and be managed together, and unless you have something that is aware of that (which is what the commercial integrations do), you're likely to have problems if you ever revert to an old version (which is rather the point of a DM system... if you never need to go back, you never need to keep versions in the first place).

Hi All,

is there any solution in IC617 that can help in design versioning.

Also is there an efficient way to archive designs in smaller size like some tools have an inbuilt archive option that creates a smaller size compressed file as compared that with using folder zipping utilities ?

No, as I said earlier in this thread, there is no built-in version control within Virtuoso - it is provided by third-party connections partners. It wasn't a matter of this not being implemented yet, we did in the past (many years ago), but decided to withdraw from providing design management capabilities ourselves.

There's nothing to product inbuilt compressed archives (you can do it yourself, but of course the tools won't be able to read it until you uncompress it).

Are there still only these five providers? (I can only find the members of the Connections EDA program, but I am not sure which members provide a Design Management System.)

Yes. MethodICs EDA was (fairly recently) acquired by Perforce, but it's the same 5 providers of integrated design management solutions.
