ADE-XL "Saving History" very slow

Rob Gregoire
Rob Gregoire over 10 years ago

When I kick off an ADE-XL simulation it takes a minute or two to get through the "saving history" period. Thankfully, if I am doing a corner simulation it only happens at the beginning of the simulation. Still, this is very annoying when I'm kicking off short simulations.

This is a new thing. Is there some option I can turn off to speed this process up?

Which version are you using (Help->About in the CIW to tell you the subversion)? Also, how many tests do you have in your ADE XL view?

version IC6.1.6-64b.500.11 Just one test at the moment. It happens if I have one corner or many corners. During the saving the whole session locks up so I can't work on schematics, etc.

Rob, not sure why it should take that long then. Please contact customer support so that we can debug this.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

This is a known problem (CCRs 1379571 and 1405883). The time required increases with the number of Tests that are defined in the ADEXL view (no matter if they are enabled or not). Contacting customer support is still a good idea because it will increase the chance that this will be fixed soon.

Hi Frank! I am currently experiencing this very same limitation, and even with a very recent release (IC6.1.7-64b.78) the problem exists. Do you know if there exists any work-around to this?

    Thanks,

    Jorge.

The only workaround I see would be deleting unused tests in your ADEXL setup instead of just disabling them. Since you are already using IC6.1.7, you might also want to try the new Assembler (http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:TechPubDocs;src=pubs;q=/assembler/assemblerIC6.1.7/assemblerTOC.html). The corresponding maestro view is supposed to be more efficient than the adexl view.

Thanks for your reply, Frank. I indeed have tried to reduce to the absolute minimum the number of tests, but even then I sometimes remain with 4-8 tests and then the situation becomes really bad. I'll try to take a look on the Assembler as soon as I get some spare time.

    Cheers,

    Jorge.

    Jorge,

Please contact customer support so that we can understand the times you're getting for the number of tests, corners, sweeps etc that you have.

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

FWIW, I got this answer from customer support.

You need to bring up the "Save Options" form from ADE XL > "Options" > "Save" in the toolbbar.
Set "Overwrite History" to overwrite  the particular Interactive run of interest.
This way, the same history directory will be re-used instead of creating a new history point, which is the default flow of ADE XL.
I'm running much faster now, but I'm skeptical that was it. Give it a try and see if it helps and let us know.
