Virtuoso crashes when trying to instantiate a stacked VIA

Hi,

I am developing a new PDK, and I ran into a problem I don't know where to find the cause of the problem.

This is what happens:
In a layout viewer, when I try to instantiate a stack of via's, upon selecting the first layer, Virtuoso crashes. It is a very serious crash, since it does not generate panic logs/files and it does not ask to send-in a report. The only error message reported is in the x-terminal: segmentation fault. So it is a pretty serious error.

We use the same version of Virtuoso for a different PDK with no issues.

My question: what could cause a serious crash like this?
Could it be that there is conflicting information in the technology file?
Am I missing some settings somewhere?

I am completely in the dark here.

If it is better to file a support ticket, than I'll do that of course.

Thanks in advance.

With kind regards,

Sjoerd

    Sjoerd,

You should contact customer support about this. Probably not much we can do via the forums...

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

I found out what causes the crashing of Virtuoso: multiple layers with the same mask number as specified in the technology file section layerRules->functions. The maskNumbers were not matching the numbers in section layerDefinitions->techLayers either. I have updated both, so now the numbers of the latter are in line with the actual GDS2 layer numbers, and the former is inline with the actual mask numbers as well.

Now, no crashing of Virtuoso anymore. However, I have a new, equally serious, issue now. Please see post "How to fix layers after changing layer numbers in the technology file" for what I have encountered.

    Kind regards,

    Sjoerd
