Cadence environment

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone here can tell me where can I find a piece of document or tutorial where it talks about cadence Cadence Environment: Folders, files, what files are crucial and why, what they do, how cadence interact with those files, etc.

Those were only I few examples. I think that cadence user manual does not have this.

By the way, do you know where can I find the new user guide manual? (ver 6).

Regards

All the documentation is in the software releases. All you have to do is run:

    <installationDir>/tools/bin/cdnshelp

to bring up the relevant documentation for that stream. You can also use Edit->Settings and then the Library tab in any cdnshelp you run to add in the documentation from another stream - so you can run cdnshelp and easily see and search the documentation from any stream you like at once.

You can also access the same help via the Help menus in Virtuoso (and edit the settings - it's the same tool).

For the hard-of-cdnshelp, all the files are in the doc directory at the root of each installation, with sub-directories containing both html and PDF representations of the manuals.

Probably the manuals you are after are (in cdnshelp):

DFII -> Virtuoso Design Environment User Guide

Cadence Shared Tools -> Cadence Application Infrastructure User Guide

However, you may be after something more specific - but there is a LOT of documentation available. It's not just a matter of "the new user guide manual (ver 6)" when we have lots of user guides and lots of IC61X releases (IC610, IC611, IC612, IC613, IC614, IC615, IC616, IC617)!

I do sometimes wonder why  users find it so hard to find the help when there are pretty obvious Help menus in the tools! Sure, in IC5141 the documentation system was a bit brittle because it didn't work that well on newer OS and required a web browser to display things, but for the last 10-11 years we've had cdnshelp across all our releases (everything since IC5141, pretty much).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
