How to use the 'gmin_check' option & set Option dc_pivot_check=yes

Hi.

Two common warning messages obtained from Cadence ADE DC-analysis (also in Transient) are:

(1) "....Use the `gmin_check' option to eliminate or expand this report.

(2) "....Bad pivoting is found during DC analysis. Option dc_pivot_check=yes is recommended for possible improvement of convergence."

A screenshot of the simulation log showing this is attached.

Can you please tell how to set these options? I searched in the DC and Transient analyses Options window but couldn't locate any corresponding entity!

Thanks.

You can find them under Simulation -> Options -> Analog in the Algorithm tab.

    Hello Frank!

    Thanks for your reply.

I searched for those options in "Simulator Options" (attached screenshot), and have two questions:

    1. I couldn't locate the "dc_pivot_check=yes" option - is it same as the "pivotdc" option displayed?

    2. there are 4 available options for "gmin_check" : max_v_only, max_only, no, and all - is it possible for you to tell which option to check?

    With regards,

    Jdp.

No, dc_pivot_check and pivotdc are not the same. Typing "spectre -h options" at the Unix command line shows

119     pivotdc=no        Use numeric pivoting on every iteration of DC
analysis. Possible values are no and yes.
    120     dc_pivot_check=no
During DC analysis, the numeric pivoting is only
performed when bad pivot is detected. Possible values
                              are no and yes.

In recent versions of IC616, dc_pivot_check appears in the form directly below pivotdc. However, as a workaround, you can enter dc_pivot_check=yes in the field "Additional arguments" under the Miscellaneous tab.

Changing gmin_check will only influence the reporting in the log file but not the problem itself. I would recommend that you either leave it at its default value (which is max_v_only) or set it to all for an even more detailed report.

The dc_pivot_check is a separate option, and wasn't added to the UI until IC616 ISR10 (6.1.6.500.10). If you want to control this before then you can add: dc_pivot_check=yes to the Additional arguments field at the bottom of the Miscellaneous tab on the Simulation->Options->Analog form.

For the gmin_check, if you just want to suppress the warnings, you can set this to no.

Most of the time I just ignore these gmin_check messages though.

    Andrew.
