Nesting of commands doesn't work well in VLS?

Hi,

If i remember correctly, I could nest a lot of commands before in Cadence Virtuoso (remember using the same in IC5 a long time ago). I could nest the ruler command with most of the other commands and even the ruler could be nested with the ruler itself. But now i see that ruler can not be nested with another ruler. Is this because Cadence has changed some setup tat i'm missing?

Thanks

    Sooraj,

In general commands can't be nested within themselves any more (there would be very little point) - there's always "repeat commands" on the Editor Options form which can keep you in a command. Also, some commands intentionally reset the nesting stack (many of the creation commands) - so you can still do create rectangle, and within that draw a ruler, and within that do a zoom.

We found that over-nesting of commands tended to lead to stability challenges because of reentrancy but also you could easily end up with your nest stack limited because it didn't get reset properly. We used to see those problems frequently in the past, but I can't remember seeing them for many years now.

Do make sure that you have the nest limit set in the Options->User Preferences in the CIW (5 should be enough).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
