Justification changes to "offset" while placing vias

RVERP

If a place a via while routing wires, and I change the via justification (Ctrl-mousewheel), the justification changes to "offset" the moment I drop the via. The via is not on the same location as the initial preview.

This emerged after updating to version IC6.1.7-64b.500.4.

Is there a setting to control the behavior?

Ctrl-middle mouse button (which is what you're doing) in the default bind keys causes the create wire command to "change wire direction after via" (this has the effect of rotating the via, not altering the justification). At least it's like this in IC617 ISR6; I wasn't able to check in ISR4. In ISR6, this seems to behave as I was expecting, but then it's not changing the justification anyway...

So what's your Ctrl<Btn2Down> bindkey defined to be?

    Maybe some pictures would help?

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Ctrl<Btn2Down> is defined as cmdCtrlOption(), and gives the option menu while creating a wire. Ctrl<Btn4Down> and Ctrl<Btn5Down> are defined as weScrollOrCycleUpWireViaAlignment() and weScrollOrCycleDownWireViaAlignment().

The problem of changing the justification is something I see from time to time, but for now I can not reproduce it. I'll do the update to ISR6, good chance I won't happen anymore.

I also have another issue when creating wires. If I create a wire and press Ctrl when crossing another wire, a via stack preview is shown to the wire I cross (new unwanted behaviour for me). I don't see Ctrl as a bindkey in the bindkey editor. Is there a way to turn this off?

    Hello RVERP,

Pressing the <Ctrl> key enable a new feature which is to autoDropVias at the intersection with pathSegments or Pins on the same net.

If you want to disable that feature please use the following skill command:

     envSetVal("layout" "weAutoDropViaForOverlaps" 'boolean nil)

We use the <Ctrl> key to disable the layer tap temporarily and be able to start with the layer specify in the 'Palette' and auto dropping the correct via.

This behavior could not be changed, the only way to remove it is to disable the tapping in the RMB menu.

Please let me know if it solves your problem.

    Thanks,

    Alex

    This indeed solves the "problem".

I also noticed that while placing wires, if you press Ctrl+Shift, you can move the wire orthogonally. Also very unwanted, you can place wires on the wrong location this way. Is this normal (not to me)? Or is this also a new feature.

Maybe they didn't think this over at CDS. If you introduce new features with bindkeys, make sure they don't interfere with older functionality, like Ctrl+Shift+q/a to move a via up/down.

    envSetVal("layout" "weCWStretchLastPointModifier" 'cyclic "disabled")

It can be set to "shift", "ctrl", "ctrlShift" or "disabled". It's a preference - some people like it, some don't....

    Andrew.

Thanks for the info. Is it possible the default value for this setting has changed, or do I have to have a talk with my CAD guy?

The setting has existing since IC616 ISR5, but it was ignored in IC616 unless you had the appropriate setting to enable early-access features of the wire editor. Those features were fully released in IC617. The default value has always been ctrlShift.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
