Xstream and reference libraries

I'm trying to Import and Export Stream files of a hierarchical design, retaining Library name and cell name. Stream does not support library names, IC5.1 accomplished this through an option "Retain Reference Libraries" and the Design Data Reference manual has considerable information on the use of these options. For Importing and Exporting stream files in IC6.0 Xstream is used and there is no corresponding option, no mention of use of reference libraries in the Design Data Reference manual. There is a tab in the options page for cell mapping which could might allow something similar.

I didn't go back beyond IC616 to check, but since you didn't say which version you're using (you said "IC6.0", which has never existed, and even if you meant "IC6.1" that covers 10 years of major releases - 8 major releases in that time). If you look in the documentation, it does cover reference libraries (there's a chapter in the Design Data Translators manual nowadays on the mapping between PIPO templates and Xstream templates, as well as this being covered in the main xstream chapter).

Here's what it looks like on the IC616 form:

For fun, I quickly checked the IC611 Design Data Translators manual from 2007. Here's what it contains:

Hopefully you can find the tab!

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Thanks Andrew.

Doing "about icfb" and "abot virtuoso" shows IC6.1.6-64b.50014 and IC5.10.41.500.6.132 (I thought versions of IC5 usually specify USR and ISR but I don't see that).

I had noted the Library tab also but I neglected to mention it. And it seems that the Library tab and cell tab provide the function that was included in "Retain Reference Libraries" in IC5, in a much more direct and capable manner. What's not clear in the documentation (and not clear to me) is how the reference libraries are used in Stream in and Stream out, with regard to whether the translation includes cells from reference libraries or only includes placements to reference library cells.

I'm sure that it won't include the definitions of the cells from the reference libraries, and only the instantiations (the SREFs in stream-speak). Otherwise it would be no different from a normal library reference which would output both the master and the instantiation.

On stream in, it gives search order to find those cells which aren't defined within the stream file.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
