Transient noise analysis, long run or multiple runs

Hi every one,

I am simulating a clock distribution but i have a question:

Can somebody tell me the difference between run a simulation with 1000 cycles (one seed) and 1000 runs (1000 seeds) of 2 cycles  (to discard the first) in terms of statistics?

I know that same seed ensure reproduce the results but...

i guess, cadence uses a different seed every new run even when i set the first one, is it right? because the tool does not allow leave empty the seed parameter.

Which is the difference? which is better?

    Hi Manuel,

    You shouldn't have to specify the seed - but the multiple runs does indeed ensure that you have a different sequence of random numbers for each run. If the circuit is settled and doesn't have memory effects that last longer than a cycle then they should be equivalent statistically - each cycle should represent a sequence of different random numbers than the others according to the distribution controlled by the noise source parameters.

    The benefit of multiple runs is primarily that you could do them in parallel rather than sequentially.
