Can't create a test in ADE L or XL

Hello:

I did a new update and hotfix to Virtuoso Custom IC Design Environment version IC6.1.7-64b.500.10 and I am starting to get all kinds of weird errors.

Whenever, I want to create a test in ADE L or XL I get the following errors:

*Error* (Default-reader-method) generic:asiGetField class:list

I can't imagine why this would happen - and I've not seen other reports of this. So please contact customer support - we may need to do some detailed digging...

    Andrew.

    Hello Andrew:

We have opened a ticket with customer support but still there is no resolution. Have you encountered any issues since my last email?

Can you replicate the same problem by simulating a simple DC analysis in ADE L or ADE XL.

The version again is  IC6.1.7-64b.500.11. I have looked in the manual and online but couldn't find any resolution.

    Thanks

No - I've not seen this, and of course have run many simple analyses since you posted this with no problem. If it was a  universal problem, I'd have seen it.

    What is the case number?

    Andrew.

One of my colleagues in Global Customer Support is looking into this - I see they sent an email today, and another 2 days ago which seems to have been missed. They are doing the right kind of debugging steps to understand why this specific version is having a problem with certain analyses. So it looks as if they are waiting for some information from you (or your colleague) to help diagnose the problem.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

They requested for an ADE L log file. Since the ADE L file didn’t get generated my colleague emailed the cds.log file and the netlist that get generated during the dc sweep which contains the error.
    Thanks

    Hello Andrew:
To be specific they requested for the spectre.out file.
I looked in my result directory both for my ADEL and ADEXL under results/data/interactive.0/psf/mylibrary/psf
But no spectre.out file was generated. Because when I choose DC analysis (AC analysis), an error message gets generated.
The only analysis that works is transient.
    Thank you
    Tuni

From some experiments, this error occurs when  you are using a version of spectre (MMSIM) that is too old. If the version is from later than MMSIM12.1.1 (from mid 2013), it works fine.

There is no good reason to use a bang up to date IC version with a 4 year old simulator version; they simply will not have been tested together.

You didn't say (either above, or your colleague in the case) which spectre version was being used. Yes, we should have asked, but that's quite a useful piece of information. Maybe you can confirm what version you're using?

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Here is the spectre version we are using.
    Sub-version 10.1.1.428.isr24

Well that makes even less sense - using a simulator which is 6 years older (and there have been 6 major releases of MMSIM/SPECTRE since then) than the IC617 version you're using. Sure, it shouldn't break in this way, but it's such an unlikely to be used combination that it's not been tested, and clearly something breaks.

So please move to a recent MMSIM or SPECTRE version (MMSIM151 or ideally SPECTRE161).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
