LVS fails "nothing in layout"

Hi all,

I can't solve this problem with LVS while trying to do the following:

I have two MOM caps that I made by myself (in the pcell that I have I can't set the dimensions that I want), shown in the first picture. In this case the LVS recognizes them as MOM caps, meaning that my layout of each of them is correct. However, if I overlap them like in the second picture (I do this because they will have a branch in common), I get the error in the title, so they are not recognized anymore as correct pcells. I also tried to make a group for each of the two MOM cap, but the LVS still doesn't recognize anything.

Do you have a solution to perform my task?

Thank you in advance,

Nicola

    Hi Nicola,

This is nothing to do with pcells (LVS tools don't care whether something is a pcell or not - they just look at shapes - or sometimes look at predefined cells). It's to do with how the LVS rules in whatever LVS tool you're using for the technology you're using are recognising the device (this is normally done by defining a combination of layers by which to recognise the device, and layers to recognise the terminals).

I don't think anyone will be able to help you without more details - probably the best thing to do is either to contact the foundry that supplied the LVS rules, or failing that, customer support for whichever LVS tool you're using (you didn't mention either the technology or the LVS tool being used).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

thanks for the answer. Sorry, I can only tell that I use nmLVS v2016.1_23.16. Unfortunately, I understand this is a too specific task, so if you don't have any other suggestion I will proceed in the way you mentioned.

    Regards,

    Nicola

    Hi Nicola,

nmLVS is a Siemens Mentor product (it's part of the Calibre suite, I believe). So your question would really need to be asked to Mentor (if not the foundry) and isn't really something that makes sense on a Cadence forum since it's not one of our products...

    Good luck!

    Regards,

    Andrew
