Deleting multiple instances of a cell from Layout

Hello,

Is there a way to delete multiple instances of a cell automatically in Layout L/XL? (like select * -> Delete)

I am manually deleting PC end cells from my layout from the right and left edges and have a huge design with multiple (>7) power domains. So, it is becoming very difficult.

Please provide me a quicker (smarter) technique for this.

Thanks,
Kashif

    Hi Kashif,

Not sure what the criteria is for selecting these multiple cells, but there are numerous ways you could do it:

    1. Edit->Select->All (assume you want it to be more selective than that - but you didn't say)
    2. Use the navigator assistant, in "Instances" mode, set the search box to be the name of the cell you're looking for, and then click to select and shift-click to select a range of instances
    3. Use Window->Assistants->Search to search for what  you want and then select the instances you want in the results
    4. Use Tools->Find/Replace and enter the search criteria, do "Find" and then select one at a time or use the Select All button

Having done that, then hit delete (or Edit->Delete).

If it's something else you're asking, please clarify your question.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

This sounds what I am looking for...trying this right now.

But sadly, I can't find the "navigator assistant" and right now "Select All" has selected "everything" so in a precarious condition right now!

    Thanks,
    Kashif

    Hi Kashif,

The navigator assistant is under Window->Assistants->Navigator. If that menu does not exist, I assume you must be using IC5141 (what does Help->About report)? This is why the forum guidelines ask you to specify the tool versions you're using - because if you're using an ancient version we can then give ancient advice!

If you're using IC5141, then the Tools->Find/Replace isn't there either, but there's an equivalent at Edit->Search.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

It works perfectly! great :-) Thanks! In fact, by doing a select All in the instances "navigator" (after searching the instance name) and then doing Edit -> Delete, it does my job.

and sorry for not updating the virtuoso version. I note this for any queries next time. I'm using 6.1.7
