[Maestro] Expression to check whether an asset has been violated in a simulation

Hello people,

today I have this problem, which should be easy to describe. I have a maestro view and I use it to run a simulation. This simulation includes a file which enables a huge list of asserts related to  Safe Operating Area Checks.

My question is: is there an expression that I can use to see if an assert has been violated? If there is at least I violation, I will check the log but I don't want to open and check it if all asserts are satisfied.

I use ICADV 12.3

Thank you and best regards,

Patrik

    Hi Patrik,

Yes, you can add an output type called 'Violation Filter' and set it to count all device checks. This can be done in both Assembler and Explorer.  After the simulation has finished, you will get the number of violations (if any).

I want to add a snapshot here describing the steps, but I cannot find a way to insert the image. I'll come back to you.

    Regards,
    Saloni

Here it is (I realized I wasn't logged in so wasn't getting the option of uploading a file):

    Hello Saloni,

Thanks, exactly what I needed. Is there also a skill function which returns this count (or better, an API to process assert violations)? It would be useful in case I want to script some more complex behaviour.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Patrik

    Hi Patrik,

Why do you need a SKILL function to do this? The violation filters allow you to construct a query (actually an SQL query) to refine what you want to look for (so to construct more complex queries) and you can then count the results, find the maximum of a particular value, or the average of some value - there's quite a lot of flexibility. I'm not sure why a SKILL function would be beneficial here.

In the past using the older way of storing the violation data (which was in PSF format), I did write a function which counted the number of violations. However, since we're now turning off writing the data to PSF (for a while it wrote both PSF and to the SQL database), that's not going to work going forward. It also predated the ability to directly add violation filter outputs in ADE XL and Explorer/Assembler.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

Actually, I did not know that you can write SQL queries. I assumed I would be able to write SKILL code like everywhere (almost) else.
In which manual are the queries documented? ADE Asembler?

    Best regards,

    Patrik

    Hi Patrik,

There is this video which explains how to use the system as a whole, but I don't think it goes into the specifics of creating a custom violation filter (it's using the ... button on the right side of the violation display view): How to filter and view the violations of checks and assertions in Virtuoso ADE XL (Video)

You may be better off looking at this Rapid Adoption Kit: Check & Assertions. This contains instructions and a database, and page 21 onwards shows how to create a custom filter.

Note that these SQL queries are specifically for checking for violation failures - not for other things.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

thanks. I'll take a look at it.
