    Hi Arun,

I moved this to a more suitable forum rather than the general questions forum.

This can be done in current IC versions using Options->User Preferences in the CIW - this was added in an IC617 and ICADV123 hotfix version. Unfortunately you didn't mention which version  you're using (the Custom IC Design forum guidelines ask you to provide such information - see the pinned post at the top of these forums). Of course you didn't post in the right forum so you may not have seen that yet...

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Dear Andrew

Sorry for overlooking the version information.

I am working with Virtuoso IC 6.1.6. I do not see the above option in the user preference like you mentioned.

    Regards

    Arun

    Hi Arun,

Create a file with the following content (call it, say, whiteBackground)

    Opus.editorBackground: white

    Then use: xrdb -merge whiteBackground

After that, start virtuoso (you will have to restart virtuoso for this to have an effect).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Dear Andrew

I don't know whether this question is relevant for this forum but I stumbled upon it while searching for virtuoso version.

I have the installation files for IC 617 version but my college seems to be running IC 616 version. So how could I upgrade to IC 617 version.? Will there be any licencing issues associated with that.

    Regards

    Arun

    Hi Arun,

The license version number does change between releases, but I would expect that if you're still in the university program (either directly with Cadence or through Europractice - depends where you're located), then the licenses will have been updated to be on current versions. It may just be a matter of installing IC617. Note that the UI change I mentioned above needs a hotfix of IC617 (I forget exactly when it was integrated) - normally downloadable via http://downloads.cadence.com

Any support you need would normally be via your university's contact point.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

This does not work with the version 6.17 we have,  however we do have the button shown in the screen grab above, but all it does is the background colour and actually there are a whole slew of things I'd like to change to make the schematics legible on a white background. (such as the selection colours, text colours / font size, circuit line thickness & c.)

The defaults for the dark background are not really light enough for me to be well contrasted on that background, nor dark enough to show up well on white either.

The problem is that it is not clear (to me at least) the priority orders ofoptions that may be set in

    .cdsenv,

    .cds_env_personal

    .cdsinit

display.drf  (which it seems may be in more than one place in the file structure)

or indeed if some display parameters can still be set by this xrdb method.

Where should I be looking to find  all this 'before you get going' stuff documented ?

    best regards

    Mike
