access signals through hierarchy in schematic

hello experts,

this is just for testing bench purpose, how can I use signals across hirarchy w/o I/O ports, e.g., I want to see BlockA/BlockSub/signalB somewhere else?

thanks,

David

    Hi David,

I'm assuming you mean that you want to connect something to those internal signals? Otherwise if it's just observing them then you can do that anyway just by selecting those signals to plot. I'm also assuming you're using spectre.

For connecting to these signals (in a testbench only) there's now a component in analogLib called deepprobe. This has a single pin which is the connection point, and a property which describes the other end of the "out of module reference". So you would do I1.I2.I3.signalA (the name needs to be in the simulator's namespace, so using dot as the hierarchy separator).

deepprobe was added to analogLib in an IC617 ISR (hotfix) version. If it's not there you may be using an older IC version, but you can find my article on Cadence Online Support which provides the component (this was the basis of the analogLib component).

Note that this should only be used in a testbench as it's only understood by simulation - tools such as Virtuoso Layout Suite XL or LVS tools would not know about the connection.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
