Virtuso XL and connectivity issue

I have been working for many years in IC5 Layout XL and loved the tool. I have worked sporadically some projects in IC  6 in the past, but this year our company decided to switch all the new projects to IC6. The new version has a lot of improvements but also I have an issue that is annoying. It happens when I move a block or when I create a bus by copying a line multiple times. Instead of keeping the connectivity, I am getting a marker over the region of the action and in the annotation browser I see a new item: "unverified connectivity area". If I right click on it and  select "extract unverified area" everything gets back to normal, but it is annoying to do it every time. I guess there is something wrong with my setup, I don't think it is something expected to happen. But all my searches came empty. Anybody can direct me on where to look or what to change to get rid of this issue ?

Thanks,

Mugurel

    Hi Mugurel

In the "Options" toolbar [Windows->Toolbars->Options], there is a button with a picture of a fire and exclaimation mark. Would you please check if it has been enabled? The function automatically updates connectivity when the design is modified.

    Best regards

    Hi Quek,

Yes, it is enabled. Most of the time works, when I am drawing the connections one by one for example.

    Hello Mugurel,

First of all this type of marker is created when you do a large editing, the goal being to not impacting the performance while editing the design.

May I ask you to contact your Cadence Application Engineer in order that he files a CCR with a testcase on your behalf. We would like to see which type of editing you do to get these markers.

In the meantime, there is a private envar (_extractInteractiveShapeChasingQueryLimit) from which you can increase the limit but you need to know that it can impact the performance.

The default value is 40000, you can fine tune it until you are fine between accuracy and performance.

    envSetVal("layoutXL" "_extractInteractiveShapeChasingQueryLimit" 'int 80000)

    Thanks

    fabien.

    Hi Fabien,

Thanks for the answer. I will try to play with the variable, when I asked this question I was working at a block with less than one hundred connections. I understand that that is not the same as the number of shapes, but I have not seen such a behavior in IC5.

    Regards,

    Mugurel
