Ocean script running on Centos6 but not on Centos7

Hi. I have an ocean script that runs on C6 fine, but hangs on C7. It's invoked from a python environment, and I'm trying which of the following goes wrong:

1. Python script

2. Ocean simulation files

3. ICADV installation

4. Premissions

Symptoms:

1. From my ipython console, an ocean script is launched to run a simulation.

2. On C6 machine simulation runs, on C7 machine simulation hangs.

Log file from the C7 (failed) machine:

command: ocean -nograph -replay /home/simTmp_20181130_2340232vgmmrmy/data_20181130_23
5109pq3dymmi/run.ocn -log /home/simTmp_20181130_2340232vgmmrmy/data_20181130_235109pq

WARNING Giving up after trying 10 displays.
WARNING Unable to connect to a non-graphical X Window Display server.
WARNING Try using the -vncTenbase option or the CDS_XVNC_TENBASE environment variable to specify a different set of 10 displays.

Questions:

1. Why is -nograph trying to invoke a vncserver

2. Is this a permission issue?

3. Any ideas how to solve this, or is there something inherently different between C6, C7 installations?

Thanks in advance,

Matan

    Matan,

When running in nograph mode Virtuoso continues to create all the windows, forms etc but you don’t see them because a VNC server is started to swallow all the graphics (you can’t connect to this server to display it). This allows code that interacts with forms to continue working on without you seeing the graphics .

i’m guessing the details of why the vnc can’t be started would be revealed if you looked into the cdsXvnc log file mentioned in the messages. Can you check that and post it here?

By the way, CENTOS is not officially supported but I expect it should work provided that all the right rpms are installed.

    Regards,

    Andrew

O.K. Thanks. Problem is solved. Wondering why I didn't think to have a look myself.

X11 fonts were missing from, once installed ocean script runs fine.

I am a bit perplexed as to how Cadence GUI loads fine, and *non GUI* script fails, given a basic font package's missing.

Attaching the log file for completeness:

    Hi Matan,

This is mostly for historical reasons - these old fonts are not (I believe) needed any more by most of the applications and most X-servers fail over (if they are needed) to some default font instead. However, when the vnc server is started, we explicitly ask it to add various fonts in the path and if they're not there, the vnc server fails to start. So they're being added just to make sure the application doesn't fail later, but in practice it wouldn't fail... (as seen when you run it graphically and it has no problem with these fonts being missing). I think there's a request in to remove that requirement, but I don't think it's happened yet.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
