Model of Transient Noise Simulation in Cadence

Regarding the transient noise simulation in Cadence, is the generated noise behaved as additive white noise model? In time-domain, is it behaved as normal distribution with one sigma equal to the equivalent noise of the circuit and the system? We found that the simulation outputs some extreme situation even the data point is of very few. Thank you for your help.

It's not necessarily white noise - if you have noisefmin set (which defaults to 1Hz in current versions, so it's usually set nowadays) then noise at low frequency is coloured based on the flicker noise.

I think it's probably best that you contact customer support so that we can understand and investigate your specific issue and see why the values are extreme...

    Regards,

    Andrew

Hi Andrew, i haven't set the noisefmin (should use the default setting) and the simulation time length is 2ms. I gather some of ADC output data to plot the distribution, the model of transient noise is not very close to pure normal distribution. Do you know how Cadence models the transient noise effect in simulation?

You've not said which version you're using so I can't say what your default is, and to be honest I'm not completely aware of precisely how we model the noise in the time domain - other than knowing that we ensure that the distribution follows the frequency-domain power spectral density given a sufficient number of samples.

I'm rather busy this week and next, and that's why I suggested you to contact customer support to ensure you (a) can provide all the details needed and (b) to get a timely response.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
