    Marben,

Given that Virtuoso is only 64-bit in IC617, neither are complete version strings. I suspect  you're comparing the major version (which would be 6.1.7.64b for all subversions in the IC617 stream) and minor version (which would be something like IC6.1.7-64b.500.23). You should call getVersion(t) to see the minor version number, or getVersion() to see the major version number.

So I can't answer your question because it doesn't quite make sense... you're comparing apples and pears.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

This is what I get, when I enter getVersion(), getVersion(t) in my CIW..

    getVersion()
    "@(#)$CDS: virtuoso version 6.1.7-64b 11/09/2015 12:45 (sjfnl165) $"
    getVersion(t)
    "sub-version  IC6.1.7-64b.78 "

Is this not more recent IC617 release compare to 6.1.7.500.17 version ?

    Best regards,

    Marben

No, it's not. IC6.1.7-64b.78 ist the Base Release while 6.1.7.500.17 is ISR 17.

    Hi Frank,

6.1.7.500.17 is a (ISR 17)  stream release or an update to a base release.

base release is  the basic installer package. Without it an update or a hotfix is meaningless.

while hotfix - A s/w change that is applied as a temporary solution (generally after a bug is reported hotfixes are released. A bunch of hotfixes might constitute an update).

So, The  ISR 17  is more recent release, because some updates is applied?

    Best regards,

    Marben

    Hi Marben,

It's not that complicated really. Every time we produce a new software release stream (e.g. IC617, IC618) we release an initial "Base" release. With the IC streams, that will have a subversion such as IC6.1.7-64b.78. Then, as issues arise we produce hot fix versions (usually on a semi-regular basis) which are a roll-up of all the resolved issues so far, plus enhancements and new capabilities. We call these "ISRs" (Incremental Software Releases). Occasionally we have Update releases too, but that model isn't used with the IC stream these days.

In the IC stream, these have used the convention .500.N where N is the ISR number, so the subversion reported by getVersion(t) would be IC6.1.7-64b.500.23 (for the latest hotfix of IC617). So the version number is strictly higher for a hotfix than the base release, indicating that it is newer. You can also see the dates in getVersion() to see that the higher numbered hotfix is more recent than the base release.

    Andrew.
