Display controls for path and vias

Sorry if this is a redundant question...

There's somewhere, an option that changes the way paths are displayed when being drawn and vias are displayed

when being placed...

Any hints would be appreciated!

For Paths and Pathsegs there is an option on Options->Display that controls Path Display which allows Borders and Centerlines, Borders only or Centerlines only. There's also an option called Via Shapes which if turned on, will show the shapes within a Via even if the display stop level is set to 0. Other than that there's not much control over via display.

    Not clear what you're after?

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Thanks Andrew, the biggest part of the problem is defining the issue unfortunately... back in IC5-ish days, when placing a via, and or a path, the

operation would be previewed with a simple outline.  Around IC6-ish, an option appeared that allowed both vias and paths to be previewed using

the layers as they appear in the .drf.  In other words, a via looked like a via and not a box outline...

    Thanks!

OK, bit surprised that you'd want to turn that off - it's not even on the Display Options form any more. You can go back to the old ghost imaging by doing:

    hiGetCurrentWindow()->trueColorDrag=nil

    Andrew.

Yea, there's the problem, I didn't WANT it turned off.  Something changed, I suspect an overzealous designer saved *his* settings into the

library for everyone to enjoy.  I haven't turned this off in so long I'd forgotten how to turn it on... now...

I've checked/verified that particular variable on every occasion.  Nothing is consistent.  At this point I'll either find it eventually or learn to like yellow paths and vias... ;)

    Thanks Andrew!

Well, the SKILL I gave you would work in any window that is affected and so you don't need to get used to the yellow paths, vias and instances!

However, to change it permanently, you should look (in order - the top most wins)

    1. File->Properties in the layout editor, on the Properties tab, and then look for trueColorDrag. You can turn it on there if set, or delete the property so it's not recorded
    2. Right Mouse->Properties over the library name in the library manager. Look for a property called viewProps and press the EXPAND button next to it (if this exists). Then look for maskLayout and EXPAND that. Then look for trueColorDrag and turn on or delete the property.
    3. If that doesn't work, try the same over the technology library - you might not have write permission though
    4. Finally check what envGetVal("layout" "trueColorDrag") returns. If that's not t then you have the setting in a .cdsenv file or set via envSetVal in a SKILL file (e.g. .cdsinit or a file loaded from there) somewhere.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Secret sauce:  hiGetCurrentWindow() - I've set/reset/set etc that trueColorDrag env variable countless times.   Getting the correct window (duh) seems to have done the trick.

    Thanks again Andrew!
