Open Layout-L instead Layout-XL by default (even if phsyconfig exists)

Hi,

I’ve noticed that when I select a layout view and right click to open it as read-only, it opens with Layout Suite XL instead of Layout L as long as a physConfig view is present.

Is this the behavior we expect?

To me it seems more natural to open a view by default with Layout L – so that we don’t take any XL licenses unless we need to. One can always go to Launch -> Layout XL if indeed he or she wants to use the Layout XL functionality.

Is it possible to setup this behaviour ?

This isn't anything to do with the presence of a physConfig view. It will be to do with whether the default application has been set. This is controlled in the  layout editor by File->Set Default Application, and you can set it per cellView or for all cellViews. You can change this even if you open the design readonly, although if changed per-cellView, you need write access to the cellView to change this.

If set per-cellView, it updates the cellView metadata properties (Right Mouse over the viewName in the library manager, and pick Properties; you'll see viewSubType appear there with the application level recorded).

If set for all cellViews, it's recorded in ~/.cdsenv like this:

    graphic maskLayoutDefaultApp string "Layout XL"

    Regards,

    Andrew.

I did try this, but the layout still opens with Layout XL. I went through File->Set Default Application, and set "Set default applicatin for all layout cellviews to "Layout L", then hit apply, and then OK.

When I opened File->SetDefaultApplication, again, it reverted back to <As Is>.   What am I missing?

    Thanks,

You're not missing anything - that's what it's supposed to do. Each time the form is launched, it shows "As-Is" by default because you only change that cyclic field if you want to actually change the setting. The first attempt should have changed the default in the ringed part:

Thank you.  I realized that the layout view has property to "open it with Layout XL".  I changed the property to open it with Layout L.  Thanks.

Related question. Many people contributes to this project, and some prefers to use Layout XL, and I open their work to review.  I don't need to use Layout XL license for this, but because the layout is created with XL, it opens with XL whenever I do that.  - I usually decend-edit from the upper level in the hierarchy.   Is there a way that in my cadence environment, the layout view is always open with Layout L even when the "viewSubType" of the layout cell is "maskLayoutXL"?

    Thanks,
