SCH1285: cannot instantiate abstracrt view as it has no symbol or scematic

I am trying to add Adder instances for my design  using GSCLIB045. But its showing error "SCH1285: cannot instantiate abstracrt view as it has no symbol or scematic".

Can someone please help with this?

What exactly are you trying to instantiate? What is the lib, cell and view name? I don't know why you would be trying to instantiate an abstract view (that's for layout) - you should be instantiating a symbol.  In fact I'm not even sure how you could even attempt to instantiate an abstract view (it would not normally even let you try).

Which IC subversion are you using (Help->About in Virtuoso will tell  you)? Where did you get GSCLIB045 from? (is there a version number associated with your GSCLIB045 installation)?

Please also explain precisely how you are trying to do the instantiation, because something is odd here.

    Andrew.

    Hello Andrew, Thanks for replying

I am using virtuoso 6.1.7-64b.78. The library is gsclib045_all_v4.4 for standard cells.

Actually, I am selecting the full adder cell to make a circuit . While selecting , It automatically selects the abstract view and shows error.

For example, after clicking on add instance icon => Browse=> select library in library browser (gsclib045_lvt), in cell Column ADDFHX2LVT, Now in Vew Column, for this particular cell only Symbol View is there and The above error is appearing in a small window.

Hope my explanation helps you in understanding this issue.

What do you get if you type:

    envGetVal("schematic" "instViewName")

in the CIW? If I had the rather unusual (read that as incorrect!) setting in my .cdsinit :

    envSetVal("schematic" "instViewName" 'string "abstract")

then I get this behaviour initially, but as soon as I've started clicking on the "symbol" view in the library browser, it forgets the initial instViewName and picks up whatever I've chosen. I couldn't find a way to make it keep trying to pick abstract once I'd started selecting symbol views from the library browser.

You might also want to look if you have a .cdsenv file in your home directory, and do a "grep instViewName ~/.cdsenv" to see if there's a setting in there.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
