Building up array of instances

Nicolas Callens

Hi,

I wanted to build up an ADC array with different inputs and output in schematic editor. Is there a way to do this efficiently instead of copying, for example, 64 times the instance?  One could use the following instance<64:0>, but then the inputs qnd outputs will be connected to the same bus. So this is not the right method.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Nicolas

    Hi Nicolas,

The inputs and outputs are not connected to the same bus. If you have an input called (say) "in" and an output called "out" on the array, and have that connected to "busin<63:0>" and "busout<63:0>" with the instance called instance<63:0> (I assume you meant 63:0 not 64:0) then busin<63> and busout<63> will be connected to instance<63>, busin<62> and busout<62> connected to instance<62> and so on.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Ah right, logical.

OK, then I assume if I have a output of 16 bits (out<15:0>), I should define it as out<63:0,15:0>?

    Thanks

    Hi Nicolas,

Virtuoso doesn't support two-dimensional buses. You would have to use out<1023:0> instead. For more details on how buses and bundles are handled, please consult the documentation - here's a link to the relevant part: Understanding Connectivity and Naming Conventions (a chapter of the Virtuoso Schematic Editor User Guide). That talks in detail about how such scenarios would be connected, and the flexibility in terms of pulling out parts of buses, repeating parts of buses and so on.

    Andrew.
