Parametric simulation in Cadence ADEXL

Hello,

I am trying very simple parametric simulation, that is plotting the NMOS I-V characteristics.  The simple procedure to do in ADEL is by sweeping the value of VDS from example from 0 to 3.3 in steps of 10m and adding the VGS in the parametric tools from ADEL.

I tried to make this simulation an ADEXL, by creating two variables as VDS and VGS that corresponds to the voltage sources at source and gate respectively. Then in the global variable pan, I defined the same range for VDS and VGS used before in ADEL, I made my test to run only the DC operating point. Now the number of corners are shown 1992, Therefore, this simulation will take a lot of time as compared to the simple setup with ADEL, to make it similar to the ADEL setup I have to sweep the VDS value from the setting of the DC test of the ADE and exclude it from the global variation. 

Is there other better option to run the parametric in ADEXL ?,

By the way in my case I cant use the Group as Parametric set as they have different sweep number of steps

    Hello NorNand,

    This is what you should do in ADEXL.

    In the data view assistant, you create a test and you will see a sub window that looks like an ADEL test set up. Then you will go to analysis and sweep VDS either as a component variable or design variable depending on how you defined VDS. For example if you defined VDS as a design variable:

    You sweep VDS from 0 to 3.3v in step of 10m

    You must define VGS as a design variable and set it to some value that makes sense. Then these two variables will show up in Global variable. In Global variable, you click adjacent to VGS and do parametric sweep either by defining it in place or using the setup that pops up. 
    If you look in the VIDEO tutorial on the forum you will find a link that shows you how to do it.

    There are no video tutorials on the forums or the community site. I expect that the reference is to http://support.cadence.com which does have a various rapid adoption kits and video tutorials.

    can you tell me please why some people perform the parametric sweep from ADEXL not from ADEL, is it because more user friendly or it is more efficient and how ?

    ADE L only has a very basic sweeping capability, whereas ADE XL allows sweeping with multiple test benches, corners, and so on - as well as sweeping parameters as well as global variables. It also doesn't store this sweep as part of the "state" so you have to store it in a separate file and restore it separately. ADE XL allows you to have specifications, so you can sweep and see pass/fail for each sweep point.

    ADE L is now in sunset mode (no enhancements, and only critical fixes), as is ADE XL. Instead you should move to ADE Explorer and Assembler (Assembler is a superset of ADE XL with newer features; Explorer offers the interactivity of ADE L but with more powerful sweeps, monte carlo and corners built in as well as a bunch of other features).

    That's a very brief coverage of the reasons - there's many more good reasons to move to ADE Explorer/Assembler.
