floating metal check in layout

hello experts,

is there some LVS/DRC/ERC checking that we can identify floating metals which doesn't connect to any pins nor devices? looks like ERC only checking floating devices but not the metal itself.

thanks,

David

    hi Andrew,

ops, sorry forgot to mention, it's for TSMC 0.18um process. I did check both Calibire and Assura LVS runsets and I could only see Floating Gate or Floating Well kind check. I couldn't find Floating Metal kind check from there. so I assume it's the same thing either I'm using Calibre or Assura (I'm using Calibre).

i.e.,, this looks like a runset code thing for LVS/ERC, right?

    thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

Yes, it's probably a limitation of the runset. You can check this article - that should hopefully point in the right direction: How to check floating metal geometries in Assura.

Obviously I can't really advise on Calibre since it's a Mentor tool that I don't have access to. I'm sure it must have a similar capability though.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
