ADE-XL response very poor when running large monte-carlo simulation

After submitting e.g. a large MC run I find that the ADE-XL window (and in fact the whole Virtuoso session) has very poor response. Basically the whole session is virtually unusable until the simulation is complete.

My guess is that ADE-XL is continuously communicating with the server running the jobs in order to update the results window real-time.

If this is correct, is there any way of stopping or pausing the real-time update to unlock the session?

    Hi Steve,

the question is not so much how large is the MC but how many parallel simulation jobs you have running. ADE has to talk to each of them sending/receiving data. From our experience
everything above 200-250 gets tricky.  We have developed a new distribution system which is taking some of the load away from  Virtuoso. It's called LSCS.  Is available in the recent releases.

Another choke point is the constant update of the results tab with te simulation data. Here we have a solution to switch to a manual mode which updates the gui only on demand. Can be activated
in the Options-Run Options  in latest releases.

    Kind regards,

    Marc

    Hi Steve,

In addition to what Marc suggested, there has been a bit improvement in the handling of the output display in IC618/ICADVM181, when using ADE Assembler rather than ADE XL. So I'd also strongly suggest you move to ADE Assembler, and use as recent a hotfix of ICADVM181/IC618 as you can. You also need ADE Assembler/Explorer to use LSCS that Marc mentions. Put another way, a lot of work has gone into ensuring responsiveness of the UI when dealing with lots of results. The manual refresh that Marc mentions is also with ADE Assembler too.

The performance improvements have not been made in the old (obsolete) ADE XL tool.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Marc, Andrew,

    Thanks for the prompt replies.

Actually my current project is moving to ICADVM 18.10.100 quite soon. I guess this isn't the most recent release, but hopefully will show an improvement combined with a move to Assembler which I will certainly try.
