IBIS model from Virtuoso

Hi All,

can anyone give any insights on if there is a way to generate IBIS model of an IC design from Virtuoso itself perhaps from the Spectre netlist ?

It can be done is other external tools but I wish to check if it is also possible without moving out of the Virtuoso framework ? And if there are any additional licenses required for such a feature.

thanks

    Dear sidm,

The Cadence Sigrity tool can create IBIS models. I know Cadence has been working to fully integrate Sigirty into the Virtuoso IC platform, but I do not know the level of integration that exists today. Sigrity was initially designed for multii-module and PCB applicationswith Allegro, but is being extended to chip design (and hence the Virtuoso IC platform) from what I understand .You might consider contacting your Cadence contacts to provide the most up to date information.

Also, I should point out that if something was urgent, you should contact customer support. I hadn't responded myself partly because I was rather busy (and I do this in my "spare" time), and also I don't have a great deal of experience with IBIS modelling, so I always have to do some research every time this comes up.

I did some searching on support.cadence.com and you may find this application note useful: Creating IBIS Models Using Analog Design Environment and Allegro PCB SI Model Integrity (so aligns with Shawn's suggestion). Oh, hang on that app note is no longer published externally as it's quite old and for IC5141 - I couldn't see a newer version from a very quick look (so I may have missed it). I suspect it's still useful as a flow guide (even though the details will be out of date because the UI has changed). Probably best if you speak to customer support, as I said earlier.

There is however a newer (and published) application note on using Liberate to produce IBIS models: IBIS characterization and modeling for IO cells

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Thanks for posting the link to the Liberate IBIS app note.

I've been able to follow much of it, but the app note references files that might be helpful.  Specifically, it mentions on p13 "....please review my copy of common.tcl file".  I've looked in the Liberate install directory and poked around online but can't find this.  Is there a tarball or set of files associated with this app note that can be downloaded?

Never mind, it's included in the app note.  I just needed to read more carefully!
