Does IC618 work in RHEL 8.2?

Hi,

I have checked the compatibility matrix document. I’m trying to understand when it says IC618 runs at RHEL 8, does it mean it works with the minor releases of RHEL for example 8.2?

Second thing is, where should I look for IC617 (in fact old versions of any tools)? In the downloads I only can see IC618.

Third, if I install the base then on top of it, installation just the hotfix is fine or I have to install updates also? Does installation of hotfix work?

Thanks for your time!

I'm not sure where this "compatibility matrix document" is that  you're referring to is? Certainly the Computing Platforms - Supported Platform Matrix for Cadence Applications doesn't mention RHEL8 being supported. The same document is also available on the main Cadence web site here (i.e. not behind the support portal). Even the Cadence Platform Support Roadmap only shows selected releases as being supported this year, with full support (for new releases in both cases) being next year.

It might work (I don't have any real experience of using RHEL8 yet), but it's not tested.

You won't find old releases on downloads.cadence.com because they are beyond the end-of-support dates. IC618 was released nearly 2 years ago, and so IC617 is no longer supported. If you desperately need it for some reason (and it's a bit odd if you do, if you've not downloaded it already), then you should contact your account team (or customer support) as we may be able to provide it via our internal manufacturing site.

When installing a release, you can just install the hotfix (no need to install the base release first). If using installscape to directly install it will download the kits it needs - the latest hotfix kits, and anything that is needed from the base release will be downloaded as needed. If you choose to download complete media images, and then install those using installscape, you should start with the hotfix and then if it needs any additional files from the base media image, it will ask you to install those. However, I would suggest just using installscape directly to do the install rather than downloading complete media images as it reduces the amount of data that needs to be downloaded.

You can also install a hotfix on top of a base release or earlier hotfix - it will update the release to the newer version and just download the differences.

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks a lot for the details.

I think I mixed up with the roadmap document with the supported platform matrix document. You are absolutely right on what you explained. So, that means RHEL 8 has not been tested but may work but 8.2 won’t work at this time. Please correct me if I misunderstood.

One more thing if I want to use Assura, IC618, Spectre tools what RHEL version you would recommend?

    Best regards,

    Rowshon.

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion about 8.2 not working. It may work - it has a similar untested status as all RHEL8 releases.

I would suggest a RHEL7 sub-version (I've used a variety of different sub-versions, including 7.6 and 7.8). Note that in the document it shows ASSURA41 as only supporting RHEL3/4 but if you look on downloads.cadence.com you'll see that the ASSURA41 for IC618 supports the same platforms as IC618. Assura is a slight oddity because it has to be built for each IC release, and so the Assura41 stream contains multiple versions targeted at different IC versions.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. I'm using RHEL 8.2. I tried to install IC617 (Hotfix only) but it is not working. When searching documents I got confused with the RHEL versions and also in the FAQs reading the definitions of Base, Updates, and Hotfix. I'm a new Linux user so that's making things more critical. I'll create another thread explaining what are the error message I am getting.

    Appreciate your help.

It's quite likely that IC617 will not run on RHEL8/RHEL8.2 - I don't know for certain - as I said, it's not been tested, and given that IC617 was released in 2015 (long before RHEL8), there could well be incompatibilities out of the box. It might work, it might not - but you're somewhat on your own running an unsupported release on an unsupported OS!

Depending on the error though, it might be possible to give you a hint to resolve it.

    Andrew.

Thanks again for the information. I created another thread showing the errors I got. Before reboot my system as you suggested I like to give it a try. Hope to get a response on that thread.

    Thank you!
