group and ungroup in layout L

Is it possible to temporarily group some components together for alignment all of them at the same time and then ungroup after alignment in layout L?

    You mean like:

    1. Selecting the components
    2. Create->Group
    3. Edit->Quick Align
    4. Edit->Ungroup

    Did you look at the menus to understand what is there?

    Also, you don't really need to group and ungroup - if you select multiple objects and then align, they are aligned together anyway. So maybe you just needed to multiply select the objects you want to align at the same time (they will maintain their relative spacing normally if you just click on the target reference edge/point, or not if you double click on the target edge/point - follow the prompts at the bottom of the window when doing align).

    Thank you. I actually tried that but somehow it didn't work. However, both methods you mentioned work now.

    I just tried that again for like 5 rectangular metal from metal 1 to metal 5 with exact same size and same position but it doesn't work in this case.
    Seem like the reason is that you can't select all metal together for group.

    I've no idea why you think that you can't select metals from different layers to make a group. You certainly can (I just tried, although I couldn't believe from just reading this that it wasn't possible). You also can select multiple layers and do an align. Maybe you've turned selectability off on some of the layers?

    Perhaps you should follow some of the training classes - our online training classes are now available (for free) on support.cadence.com

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    I'm sorry I posted this wrong place.

    Could you help me check this?
    The rectangular is metal 2 to 5 with same size and position and the green one is metal 3.

    It doesn't do that for me - and it's quite hard to see whether the selection has got dropped somehow during the operation. Did all the metals actually get selected in your area selection?

    I would suggest you contact customer support, since the video is unclear.

    Andrew.

    Oh, I think I just found the problem.
    I was selecting the all the metals first and then press align button "A".
    But now it works fine if I do the opposite, pressing "A" first and then select all the metals.

    Pre-selection should work too. I have no idea why that is not working for you. Maybe you have peculiar bind keys which are reseting the selection...
