Stability analysis with hbstb

Hi,

I am trying to run stability analysis on an amplifier by putting a "diffstbprobe" instance and running hb+hbstb analysis.

However I get the following error while running the simulation after selecting the diffstbprobe in hbstb analysis:

"Name conflict: value 'I102' of type 'scalar subcircuit instance' encountered. Expected value is of type 'scalar instance'."

I don't have this issue if I do the exact same procedure with pss+pstb instead of hb+hbstb.

    Please can you provide:

    1. The exact IC sub-version you're using (Help->About will tell you this, or typing getVersion(t) in the CIW). It potentially is useful to know the spectre sub-version too (will appear near the top of the spectre log)
    2. The hbstb lines from the input.scs

    My guess is that this was resolved a while ago (I just ran with IC6.1.8 ISR15 and Spectre 19.1 ISR13 and it worked fine). My guess is also that it's a formatting problem where the wrong instance is being passed (it should add ".IPRB_DM" or ".IPRB_CM" to the instance name depending on whether differential mode or common mode stability is being measured.

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

    My version is: ICADVM18.1-64b.500.6

    Spectre 18.1.0.077 64bit

    IPRB0 (net017 bbp) iprobe
    IPRB1 (net010 bbn) iprobe
    I11 (net014 net034 net1 net5) diffstbprobe
    simulatorOptions options psfversion="1.1.0" reltol=1e-3 vabstol=1e-6 \
    iabstol=1e-12 temp=27 tnom=27 scalem=1.0 scale=1.0 gmin=1e-12 rforce=1 \
    vthmod=vthcc ivthn=300e-9 ivthp=70e-9 ivthw=0 ivthl=0 maxnotes=5 \
    maxwarns=5 digits=5 cols=80 pivrel=1e-3 sensfile="../psf/sens.output" \
    checklimitdest=psf vdsatmod=gds
    sweephb sweep param=pbb start=-30 stop=-10 step=5 {
    hb hb autoharms=yes autotstab=yes oversample=[1]
    + fundfreqs=[(1G)] maxharms=[5] errpreset=moderate annotate=status

    hbstb hbstb start=10M stop=5G probe=I11 localgnd=net3
    + annotate=status

    I found out something interesting. This only happens if the sweep parameter in HB is active! otherwise it runs ok.

    That's a bit of an odd bug - I can reproduce it in IC6.1.8 ISR15.

    I will file a CCR for this tomorrow. What's also odd is that if you use Simulation->Netlist->Create (in Explorer) with the sweep enabled on the hb analysis, it doesn't appear in the netlist (it does when you run the simulation).

    Once I've filed this, it's probably going to be worth you contacting customer support and requesting a duplicate so it can be tracked against your customer account.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thanks Andrew.

    For the time being I will use design variable sweep instead of hb parameter sweep, until the bug is fixed Slight smile
