Random crashes in Virtuoso

Hi,

I am going through the process of setting up a new PDK to work with virtuoso cadence (IC06.17.720) at my institution. I was able to get the PDK to work with our environment and do simulations/layout successfully. However, I am facing constant random crashes. I get the error in the image below.

I am wondering about how to approach and solve this issue. I am suspecting that it might be an OS problem. The server is running CentOS Linux 7 (Core).

I would appreciate any help!

Not sure how you're doing the display - is it via some remote display tool, or are you sat in front of a native Linux workstation? The error is saying that there was a fatal X IO error, which usually means that either there's a bug with whatever X display tool you're using, or that the connection has been interrupted. This is not very likely to be a Cadence tool issue...

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Hi Andrew, I am connecting remotely using MobaXterm V20.2. I will try using a different tool. Is there a tool that you would recommend? Is it possible that this could be a compatibility problem between IC06.17.720 and CentOS Linux 7?

    Regards,

    Bahaa

I wasn't really aware of MobaXterm until recently, but others reported some issues with it - for example in this thread (that's a link to a post where I made suggestions to alternatives).

Whilst CentOS 7 has not been fully supported (in other words there's not widespread testing of it), it's widely used and should just be a clone of the supported RedHat Enterprise 7 (I too was using CentOS 7 from time to time a while back), and I think that's unlikely to be your issue. It's more likely to be either MobaXterm (I did a quick check and only found a handful of customer reports where MobaXterm was mentioned, and mostly those were from universities) - even then, many of those just mentioned it in passing rather than specifying a particular problem, or that your network is not keeping the connection open to the X server - this appears to just be an X server and is not designed to handled the ability to disconnect from the server and reconnect later (see the other thread I just mentioned).
