copy only one layer in order to connect nets by name

I need to copy only one layer I cannot see how to do this. Using nv I can show one layer but when I go to select it selects even what is on other layers.

Then if I can find a way to do this, I will temporarily bring the copied layer in my case cad layer containing pin names up one level of layout hierarchy and use calibre

option Connect > Connect all nets by name
to get it to lvs then remove the it as the block will eventually connect to something else that will make the connections.

But what I am really trying to do connect nets with the same name one hierarchy level below.

You see using Cadence 6.18 with calibre nmLVS I can use

option Connect > Connect all nets by name
to get it to lvs but only at the current schematic view not once you go up one hierarchical level for obvious reasons.

Much of your question seems to be about Calibre, which is not a Cadence product and these aren't really the right forums to be asking about Siemens (Mentor) products...

I assume by "nv" you mean you clicked on the "NV" button in the layer palette? Perhaps you also need to make instances not selectable too in the Objects part of the palette? If layers aren't visible, they certainly aren't selectable, so I don't know what you mean here. There might be some layers which are not "valid" and so don't become invisible when you click "NV", but they still wouldn't be selectable because they are not valid for drawing on unless they are made "valid".

Your question is rather unclear. You might be talking about something else - not sure!

yes that answers it thanks. I think I went wrong with not making instances not selectable too in the Objects part of the palette.
