What is the meaning of the parent purpose in a LPP?

I see that a LPP can also contain a parent purpose. What is the meaning of this? I can't find really anything in the manual, except that if no parent is defined the default parent is "drawing".

Best to speak to customer support about this - it's not that widely used I think (probably because the default is sensible). I think it has some applications when using voltage-dependent rules, and a few other situations but I'm not that familiar with it myself.

There is a small mention in the VLS L user guide (for the palette; you can choose to display the parent in the layer palette):

    Parent
Sorts layer-purpose pairs by the parent purpose of the layer-purpose pair, in the
alphabetical order. The parent purpose is the main purpose of the layer from which you
can define other purposes. The parent purpose for the layer is defined in the Layer
Definition section of the technology file. The layer-purpose pairs for which the parent
purpose is not defined are listed first, followed by the layer-purpose pairs for which the
    parent purpose is defined.

I'm not sure that particularly helps overmuch though!

    Andrew.

Thanks for the response. This is maybe not really worth it to go by customer support, since I'm just asking out of curiosity Slight smile.

The only parent purposes I have seen are drawing and annotation (and undefined). Probably there isn't much added value for this.
