strobe period in tran dynamic parameter

Hi,

I try to use strobeperiod as a dynamic parameter in transient simulation. But the sim log says:

ERROR (SPECTRE-16557): In analysis 'tran', the parameter 'strobeperiod' defined in `paramSet1tran` paramset is not found in the netlist.

Is there any clue to include the strobeperiod in the dynamic parameter?

My cadenc version is IC618-64b.500.18, and mmsim version is 19.10.322.

I am not sure if this is possible, because the strobeperiod parameter is not mentioned in https://support.cadence.com/apex/ArticleAttachmentPortal?id=a1Od0000000nSoyEAE

    Indeed, it is not possible.

One idea would be to modify the code in my article: How to specify more than one region of time where strobeperiod is enabled in a transient analysis to change the strobe period dynamically - this particular article is to solve a different issue, where you might want to turn strobing on or off in more than one period, but a similar idea could be used to change the actual strobe period. Note that this Verilog-A model won't be useful for the strobing benefit of reducing the number of points saved - it was mainly to allow the strobing to match the sample interval used in multiple DFT.

    Regards,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for sharing the verilogA model, which i have tried, but seems it can not do the strobe function as expected. E.g., i use a sine wave from 0 to 500us, and i set strobeper = 20us, start=0 and end=500u, the transient waveform still show me many points not really at strobed instants.

    Regards

As I mentioned before, the purpose of the Verilog-A is not to reduce the number of points, but to ensure there is an output point at the strobe points (so this is for the elimination of interpolation error when performing FFTs with the dft function). So you should see outputs at the strobe points, but other points may be present too.

If you're using it to reduce the number of points, and need the strobeperiod to be variable, it will need an enhancement request for the simulator to do that.
