DRC Error Using Assura

Dear Andrew,

I am using "ICADVM18" version for virtuoso and "4.1_USR6" version for Assura for a standard 180 nm process. But when I am performing DRC, I am getting the some DRC errors. I have attached the a screenshot of the errors. I really appreciate if you have any suggestion for me to resolve this issue.

Note: 1. In the "Log" window I am getting a warning stating "Layout and Assura versions are not matching".  Is this the reason behind getting the errors?

2. Also in the command window I am getting the message "Failed to obtain license for "Assura_UI" ".

First of all, it's a bit odd that you can use ICADVM18.1 and not IC6.1.8 (based on your other post), so maybe your IC6.1.8 was badly installed?

Secondly, the mismatch in versions is probably because you're not using the right ASSURA4.1 version (see How to verify the correctness of the Assura environment configuration after installation if Assura menu does not appear in the layout). You probably should be using the ASSURA_41USR6HF9_OA-181 version from downloads.cadence.com (I suspect you're trying to use the IC618 version of Assura). However, this won't explain why you have a lot of DRC errors - that's most likely because you actually have DRC errors.

Thirdly, this probably means you don't have the license!

    Dear Andrew,

Thank you for your kind response. I was able to fix the "IC618" version of virtuoso and I am running it with "Assura 618". They are compatible with each other and I am not getting the warning "Layout and Assura versions are not matching". But in the command window I am still getting the massage "Failed to obtain license for "Assura_UI" ". And I am also getting the DRC errors of the previous screenshot.

I am wondering, if Assura does not have any license, how is it doing the DRC check and giving me error massages. Looking forward to your kind response.

I tried blocking the Assura_UI license in my environment but didn't get that error, but it may just be that I'm not using quite the same version. What does happen is that if it can't get the Assura_UI license it falls back to getting a PVS or Pegasus results environment license, so my guess is that's what's happening (PVS and Pegasus licenses can also be used to run Assura DRC too).

If you don't have any license at all to view results (which is unlikely unless they're all in use), then the UI wouldn't appear (I reproduced that by blocking the PVS/Pegasus licenses too) - so it seems pretty likely you have some suitable license - so you may just be seeing a spurious warning.

Either way, the DRC errors appear to be valid!
