How to plot current results along with last run results in the same window/tab in viva.

I'm back to Cadence after three years out, and unfortunately good old AWD has gone. I have Ic618 and Viva.  Yesterday I figured out how to plot outputs in Viva and restore a prior run's results onto the same window (not another tab) so that I could do an A--B compare. Today, I can't remember what I did!  It was some combination of save window --- load window in Viva, or ADE-explorer>results >save, then ADE-explorer>results>select, but I'm darned if I can make it work again. It's not too difficult to display two runs in separate tabs, but I just want Viva to do what AWD did trivially, that is superimpose THESE results over the LAST RUNS results in the same window.

Can someone give a blow by blow account on how t do this?

Thanks.

OK, I've figured out one way, save results "A" using "save window" in Viva. run a new sim "B", load the "A" results using "load window", then using the results browser plot signal from "B". This works, but it's super klunky and not what I did yesterday.

Another way is purely through he results browser, by saving run1 in explorer>results >save>run1, then running a new sim, which is auto saved to ExplorerRun.0. Then explorer>results >select>run1 which puts both run1 and ExplorerRun.0 into the results browser window, then by right clicking the signal of interest and selecting "all dBs" both current and previous signal/s are displayed.

I'm sure I stumbled over a more elegant way yesterday though..............................

And if it HAS to be done this way, why not have Explorer auto save several consecutive runs for display in the results browser (ADIs "ADICE" simulator used to do that, e.g. >  run0, run-1, run-2 and so on back in history)

It's been a long time since I've heard anyone refer to "Good old AWD" (given that AWD was very limited, had a pretty horrible use model, and had all sorts of limitations). Anyway, this isn't the waveform tool's issue - it's whether ADE is in Replace or Append mode. All you need to do is change this setting from Replace to Append:

You really don't need to do all the mucking about you suggested.

Normally Assembler increments the histories automatically, but it is possible to enable this with Explorer too. See Saving Incremental Histories in Explorer.

You can then pick the histories with Results->Select (it's similar to the ADE L mechanism). This makes it easier to refer back to older data if you need to. Or use Results->Save if you want to give the saved data a more meaningful name.

Probably worth you looking at some of the rapid adoption kits if you want to bring yourself up to speed again:

    • Virtuoso Analog Design Environment Explorer and Virtuoso ADE Assembler
    • Virtuoso ADE Assembler For Beginners
    • Virtuoso ADE Explorer and Virtuoso ADE Assembler Expression Builder
    • ADE Plotting Templates
    • Virtuoso Visualization and Analysis XL (ViVA-XL)

    Thanks!

I did search through the explorer user manual and the Viva user manual, but somehow missed this.

I don't know if you remember when Wavescan replaced AWD?   Well it was horrible. Viva does seem much nicer in its current form, than Wavescan ever was.

Again, thanks for the information, that will make life easier, I can only assume by happenstance that explorer was set to append the other day, and replace yesterday, hence the problems!
