Assembler-4040 Failed to fetch results from Matlab script

IC6.1.8-54b.500.22
Matlab r2020b

In Assembler I'm using a simple Matlab script in the outputs list that creates a couple figures and a plot and then sets axlResult=99. The first time I simulate, the figures and plot are displayed and then immediately (~1 sec) disappear. The output in the results tab has value 99 as expected. If I then click the re-evaluate icon the script is run again and the figures and plot are displayed and remain visible. However, the result value shows "error" and the following message appears in the CIW/CDS.log:

WARNING (ASSEMBLER-4040): Failed to fetch results from the Matlab script because it returned the following error: >> .

If i then rerun the simulation the same result "error" value is displayed and the above warning is again produced. Given that nothing was changed in the test or script and they worked previously, I'm at a loss as to why the error value is returned. Can you offer an explanation or any trouble shooting suggestions?

Note: When I select the script using the browse for file icon on the outputs setup, I select the script from a sub folder in my home directory. Upon simulation I noticed that script gets copied to the maestro folder and to sub folders for each history. When i inspect those various copies they are intact and correct so it seems this scheme is working correctly.

Why do the Matlab figures and plot immediately disappear?

What is the exact command used by Assembler to spawn a Matlab script?

I've noticed in the past some variables in the script were displayed in the CIW but I haven't been able to reproduce this behavior. How to consistently redirect information to the CIW from the script?

It sounds as if you're using the older MATLAB script approach rather than the mechanism using the ADE MATLAB integration which allows MATLAB expressions to be added to the output (which is a cleaner mechanism).

Either way, debugging this via the forums is going to be rather hard. Please contact customer support.
