Can I use an ADE-Explorer license for an older version of Cadence?

I am trying to access an older design that was done on Cadence version IC6.1.6-64b.500.10.  My University no longer has an ADE-XL license, only ADE-Explorer, so I get license errors when I try to open ADE on this older version of Cadence.  I understand that newer versions can use an ADE-Explorer license for ADE, but can version IC6.1.6-64b.500.10 (which is pre-ADE-Explorer) use an ADE-Explorer license for ADE or ADE-XL?

No, the earliest version that supports use of Explorer (for ADE L) or Assembler (for ADE XL) is IC6.1.6-64b.500.13 - slightly later than the version you've tried.

Why do you need to use such an old version? Wouldn't it make sense to open it in a newer version instead?

    Regards,

    Andrew

Hi Andrew, I wasn't sure if a design that was made with the older version of Cadence would be compatible with the newer version. Based on your response it sounds like it will be compatible, so I'll try updating to a newer version of Cadence. Thanks!
