net annotation of subcircuit layouts

I'm doing the top level routing of a block which has many subcircuits. At the current level of hierarchy (top level), I can see the net names annotated on the metal layers at the top level. Also the pin names of the subcircuits are annotated. But the net names of nets inside the subcircuits are not annotated. Is there a setting where I can veiw the netnames of the subcircuits ?

    Hi Paulinho,

Yes. The way to do this on a net by net basis is to go to Virtuoso XL->Connectivity->Net Tracer->Add/Remove and hover your cursor over the net in the sub-circuit. If you're connected to this net at the top, you'll see the name of the top level net and all the geometries in the hierarchy will be highlighted. If you're not connected to the top or if this is an intermediate node, the name of the net in the sub-circuit is given and the connected geometries are again highlighted as before.

    Hope this helps!

    Edward

My assumption is that you're talking about the net names displayed on the layout like this:

The above is actually showing the net names from levels lower in the hierarchy, because I used the Options->Net Name Display and changed the Hierarchy Level to top to bottom. This relies on the fact that the lower level cells also have connectivity (i.e. the layout done with Virtuoso Layout Suite XL):

Of course, I may have misunderstood your requirement (maybe Edward's net tracer suggestion is what you wanted).

Thanks Andrew & Edward. The one which Andrew mentioned was what I was looking for. However the feature which Edward mentioned also serves to be handy.
